Having ridden a bike for most of my life, I started racing at the tender age of 40. I’m now 55 and have dabbled at most things, road racing, time trials and mountain bike racing. The last few years have seen me make no improvement in performance, even though I was supposedly “training”.

My wife Pat had been with John for a  year and surprised me by giving me a six month training programme as an early Birthday present. Since then I’ve religiously followed John’s advice and training and now feel so much more able to tackle the forthcoming season.

The club I belong to have introduced a division structure for this year and I believe that I will become the champion of my division because of John’s thoughtful and considered training. I now seem to do less than I have done in the past, but the sessions I complete are all quality workouts, and although painful at times, I feel positive that they will bring about the just rewards in the long term.
