I’m a 43 year old guy trying to stave off the ravages of time and a misspent youth. I recently got back into cycling after a 10 year break on a holiday in Provence where a wee hill called Mt Ventoux beckoned. The ride up it nearly did me in but I managed, and a spark was re-born. I have done the odd TT and took part in the local cycling club confined series. I’ve spent a fortune on a new bike and carbon bit’s and pieces all of which made no difference to me whatsoever. I’ve therefore decided to try and build an engine that can at least do the bike some justice. To do this I think a structured development taking into account my weaknesses and strengths is the only sensible way to go.

I live in sunny Aberdeenshire which means I have access to some beautiful riding terrain, but none of it flat!

My goals are to become a better cyclist and drop my times on TTs so that I can say that I maximised what my body and mind can produce. I have the ‘constraints’ of a wife and two lovely kids and a demanding job. So life juggling and balance are important. I want to teach the kids that you get out of life what you put in whether that’s school work, relationships or sporting achievements.

PS, I’ve only been with John one day and I’ve done my best confined TT ride of the season.
