Through the 1980’s I always rode a bike but not competitively, being the son of a racing cyclist there was always some draw to the sport, however I never really took it seriously. Since getting my first proper job in 1990 and starting my career I really haven’t ridden the bike at all. That was until just before Christmas 2005 when I realised I was approaching 40, the weight was going on and my dad (60 at the time) was talking about doing the 2006 Etape du Tour. I said I would get fit and do a couple of the UK sportives with him, like everything I do its all or nothing so I trained hard completed three of the more demanding sportives with times inside the top 20 and really got bitten by the bug.

Moving into 2007 I joined a club, focused on racing in the spring and training for this years Etape Du Tour which I completed in 8hr 15 mins in 317th place.

I have been disappointed by my racing results this year (whilst being able to keep up, getting in some of the breaks but not really able to compete in the finale). On reflection my training had no structure i.e. lots of miles and pushing the pedals harder, meant I was not realising my potential and was in fact overtraining and knackered.

So here I am working with John looking forward to a better year with improved results, delivered through structured training and no junk miles.
