Ramp Test and Consultation

A test on my turbo trainer to establish:

1. Your 7 WCPP heart rate training zones
2. Your aerobic threshold power
3. Your Maximum 1 minute power
4. A calculation of your VO2 Max
5. Where your strengths and weaknesses are at sub maximal powers
6. Your pedalling efficiency
The I-magic catalyst software was used for this test (as in the picture) but now we have upgraded in a big way! The test now uses a Pro Lab Version of the Computrainer which is the highest spec training and testing device money can buy. Click here to read more. The pro lab version is calibrated to the highest possible tolerances so the figures derived from it can be put straight to use on the road with SRMs or power taps. The Computrainer is used by both the Canadian and USA national cycling teams, amongst others and really is an awesome piece of kit.

As part of the ramp test we will analyze your pedalling efficiency using the computrainer's revolutionary Spin Scan Pedal Stroke Analyzer software. We will see where there are dead spots in your pedal stroke and whether your distribution of power is equal between right and left legs.

Over a coffee we will then chat about training, racing and where your strengths and weaknesses are and how best to eliminate them. I will then create a detailed training plan for you built around your lifestyle and time available to train to take you to your goals. The plan can be of any length from 3 months to a year but I would usually recommend 3 to 5 months as an optimum duration. The plan will be ready within 5 working days of the test.

PLATINUM PACKAGE

Excellent phone and e-mail access to your coach. You will always know where I am and always be able to get hold of me. Busy lives and ever changing schedules mean you need to be able to get hold of your coach quickly. 2 E mails per month and a phone call every full moon don't really work. We will have excellent two way communication as part of the rider / coach team.

High quality, detailed personalised weekly training schedules unique to you. The training is structured, logical and targeted around your specific strengths and weaknesses. There is nothing magical or mysterious about the training, it is based around logic, science, hard work and a fair dose of coach's intuition. If you have the passion and dedication I will make sure it is channelled to make you the best athlete that you can be.

Access to the rider’s forum where you can talk to all the other riders that I coach and about training, racing, bike bits and life in general. You will feel part of an excusive team.

Your training will be explained to you and you’ll know exactly why you are doing each session. I wouldn’t carry out a training session unless I knew why and I wouldn’t expect my riders to either. I want all my riders to understand and learn. If you have a power meter - FANTASTIC!! We will use it as an integral part of the training, if you don't then don't worry we will use HR and 'riding on feel'. All these mediums are simply tools and even the most complex of tools is useless unless it it is used correctly. I'll show you how. All the training is prescribed and analysed through training peaks, no messing about with antiquated word documents and spread sheets. Every pedal rev you make will be analysed and thought through as soon as it's uploaded.

On top of this you also get

  • Psychological skills training to give you the mental edge over the opposition

GOLD PACKAGE

After you have filled in a detailed questionnaire to target your strengths and weaknesses we will talk at length over the phone about how best to achieve your goals and the training that will work for you.

I will then create a detailed, structured, 100% personalised 3 month plan for you, with all training sessions described in depth.

The plan is built around your life, your job and your time available to train. All you need to do is look at the plan and ride. No more guess work.

Unlimited e-mail access and all e-mails turned around with 24 hours at the very latest.

Feedback reviewed by me on a bi-weekly basis and if necessary plan changes made depending on how you respond to the training.

The training you receive is descriptive, in depth and unique to you, as with the platinum package you will not make single pedal rev without knowing why.

 The Knowledge

What is the knowledge? Over the last 3 years I have been working on a book which encapsulates all the principles of training, nutrition and goal setting which I use in my coaching. It is written for the time starved rider who wants to be the best that they can be in as little as 4 hours a week. It is a labour of love which has been written, scrapped, started again and changed on a weekly basis over the years as my knowledge as a coach and rider has grown. Finally I am happy with it and it has been a hit with the athletes who have trialled it for me. It tells you everything you need to know about constructing a training plan and detailed sessions to bring you to your peak.

I am offering the knowledge in e-book format and I am also offering an e-mail support service where I will answer any of your training queries and conundrums. THIS IS NOT ONE TO ONE TRAINING!
